Source Code and Content Licenses
2015-04-23 | 1.1

Smarter Balanced seeks to develop a healthy and robust community of software and assessment organizations centered on the SmarterApp assessment platform. It is hoped that the platform will be used to benefit both Smarter Balanced member states and also other education and assessment organizations.

For Source Code, Smarter Balanced prefers the Educational Community License, Version 2.0 (ECL-2.0). However, due to the origins of certain components of the system, other licenses are also used. Components originating with the American Institutes for Research are released under the American Institutes for Research Open Source Software License. As components are posted in the SmarterApp source code repository, you are encouraged to check the respective licenses under which they are distributed.

For specifications, user guides and related documents, Smarter Balanced prefers Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. In some cases, the Share Alike component is added.

As of Fall 2018 the Smarter Balanced Test Delivery System (TDS) is no longer supported.

The code base and documentation for the TDS is available within the Smarter Balanced GitHub repository.
